BMB Thailand has held various activities for the advancement of biochemistry and molecular biology since its foundation, beginning with annual local workshops and training courses for researchers, students, and instructors between 1975-2006. Then, the first Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) Conference at the national level was started in 2007, co-organized by the BMB Thailand and the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University. The conference then expanded to an International Conference, co-organized by BMB Thailand and Departments of Biochemistry from various universities in alternate years. The biennial BMB conferences are some of the largest bioscience conferences in Thailand with many participants including professors, researchers, and students. The conference aims to create opportunities for scientists and entrepreneurs to share and exchange their experiences with others to promote creative discussion and a collaborative environment.
The JS-BMB Award (supported by the Jisnuson Svasti Endowment Fund) has been given to outstanding mid-career biochemists in alternate years since 2009, while Young BMB Awards have been given to young BMB researchers since 2011. The Awardees will present their work at the BMB Conferences. In 2016, the Thai Young BMB Camp for graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and young scientists was initiated in conjunction with the BMB Conference.
This upcoming year in May 2025, the 9th BMB Conference will be co-organized by BMB Thailand and the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, as a special event celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University. The Conference will be organized fully onsite and will offer plenary and invited lectures, symposia, posters, and oral presentations, as well as exhibition and technical talks. The BMB Thailand fellowships will be available for attending the conference. Prior to the conference, the “Thailand Young Biochemist and Molecular Biologist Camp (TYBC) 2025” program will be organized to provide opportunities for young biochemists and molecular biologists to expand their perspectives through inspiring talks by renowned scientists and opportunities to develop international networks.
